Bed Buddy Safety Guidelines

Safe use of your Bed Buddy heat pack: check for hot spots, never leave it unattended, keep it off the eyes, and who should talk to a doctor first.

Quick answer

Heat it only as your tag says, check that it is warm and not hot, check for hot spots, and never leave it unattended while it heats or while you use it. Never place a heated pack over the eyes. If you have nerve damage, circulatory problems, sensitive or broken skin, or you are pregnant, talk to a doctor before use.

Applies to: all Bed Buddy heat wraps. The Back Wrap (BBF5085) and Body Wrap (BBF2000-12) also carry a natural rubber latex warning.

Before you heat

  1. Read the tag on your own wrap. Times vary by model.
  2. Use a clean, empty, microwave-safe dish or the turntable.
  3. Lay the wrap flat and spread the filling evenly.
  4. Keep food and liquid off the wrap. Contamination can cause overheating.
  5. Do not use the microwave's convection mode.

After you heat

  • Touch-test the wrap. It should be warm, not hot.
  • Check for hot spots by pressing and shifting the filling.
  • Shift its position during use so heat does not stay on one spot of skin.
  • Stay awake and nearby. Do not fall asleep on a heated wrap.

Who should talk to a doctor first

Please speak with a doctor before using heat or cold if:

  • you have nerve damage or reduced feeling in the area
  • you have circulatory problems
  • your skin is sensitive, injured or broken
  • you cannot remove the wrap yourself, or you are caring for someone who cannot
  • you are pregnant

Also talk to a doctor if you have a medical condition and are unsure whether heat is right for you.

Never on the eyes

Never put a heated pack over the eyes. Our Sinus Pack and Relaxation Mask have their own use notes. See the sinus pack and relaxation mask guide.

Latex

The Back Wrap and Body Wrap contain natural rubber latex, which may cause allergic reactions. Do not use them if you are allergic to latex. We do not describe any other model as latex-free, so check your tag or listing.

Children and others

Do not give a heated wrap to a young child. Never use a heated wrap on someone who cannot tell you it is too hot or who cannot take it off.

When to stop

Stop and let the wrap cool if your skin turns red, feels painful or tingles, if you smell burning, or if the wrap looks scorched. Keep damaged wraps out of the microwave.
