How to Clean Your Bed Buddy
Clean a grain-filled Bed Buddy by wiping with a damp cloth and letting it dry fully. Never soak it or put it in a washing machine.
Quick answer
Wipe the cover with a damp cloth, then let the wrap dry completely. Do not soak a grain-filled Bed Buddy and do not put it in a washing machine. Always follow the tag on your own wrap.
Applies to: BBF1998-12, BBF8000-02, BBF5085 (Back Wrap), BBF2000-12 (Body Wrap) and other grain-filled wraps.
Steps
- Let the wrap cool fully if you have just used it hot. If it was in the freezer, let it come to room temperature.
- Dampen a clean cloth with a little water. Wring it out so it is damp, not wet.
- Wipe the surface gently. Use only a damp cloth.
- Dry the wrap in a ventilated spot, away from direct heat. Let it dry completely before the next use.
- Never microwave a damp wrap. Moisture and heating do not mix.
- Store it dry in a cool, dry place, or in the freezer if you plan to use it cold.
What not to do
| Do not | Reason |
|---|---|
| Soak or submerge the wrap | The filling can hold moisture and may smell or spoil |
| Machine wash or tumble dry | The filling is not made for it and the wrap may be damaged |
| Heat to dry it | Hot, damp filling can overheat |
| Put it away damp | A damp wrap can develop a musty smell |
About the word "washable"
You may see "washable" in some product descriptions. For our Back Wrap, the listing says the outer fabric is washable with a damp cloth, which is the same wipe-clean method above. It does not mean the filled pack can go in a washing machine.
A few models are made differently. For example, one reviewer of our neck comfort wrap notes a removable cover. Do not assume that applies to your wrap. Only remove and wash a cover if your tag or instructions for that model say you can, and keep the filled part out of the water.
Food, oils and spills
Keep food and liquid away from the wrap, especially before microwaving. Food or liquid on the fabric can cause overheating. If something spills on it, wipe it right away, let it dry fully, and do not heat it until it is dry.
Caution: If a wrap has been soaked, smells musty, or feels clumped and damp inside, stop using it. See why does my Bed Buddy smell and when to replace it.
